2009 Nissan Murano pricing and specs

Nissan has announced the official pricing and specifications for its second generation Murano SUV. It boasts an evolutionary design over the original Murano launched five years ago, which Nissan claim spawned the cross over genre. Local models will receive a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 engine which develops 191kW of power and 336Nm at 4400rpm. On the combined cycle, the new Murano uses 10.9 litres of petrol per 100kms while producing 259 grams per 100kms of CO2.
2009 Nissan Murano -2“The basic engine architecture hasn’t changed, but attention to fine detail has helped develop an engine that not only delivers more power, but does so using less fuel and producing fewer emissions.” says Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Managing Director and CEO, Dan Thompson.
The engine is mated to a revised six-speed Xtronic CVT gearbox which has been optimised for quicker and more intuitive shifts. Power is transferred to the ground through an intelligent all mode four-wheel-drive system with electronic 4WD selection and lock mode, including Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Active Brake limited Slip and Traction Control System (TCS).2009 Nissan Murano -1
Standard features include push button start, double stitched leather seat trim, leather steering wheel and gear knob, dual zone climate control, cruise control, six-stacker stereo system with MP3 auxiliary input and six speakers plus steering wheel audio controls. The flagship Ti variant adds front heated seats, a BOSE audio system with 11 speakers including two subwoofers, satellite navigation, reverse parking camera and hands free Bluetooth phone system.

2009 Nissan Murano LE AWD Test Drive - Pure Smoooothness

The original Nissan Murano, launched in 2003 as a 2004 model, set new standards for style and sportiness, as well as comfort and versatility, in the expanding mid-size cross-over sport utility vehicle marketplace. There was nothing before or anything after that came close to the Murano’s attributes.

The all-new, second-generation 2009 Murano elevates that unique position through a ‘super evolution’ of the original design-with a new exterior, interior and enhanced technology. Murano’s new premium driving feel results from a combination of a new advanced platform, continued refinement of Murano’s standard V6 engine, and new, second-generation Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission), which continues to be the best in class with it’s silent and strong operation.

“The 2009 Murano is an upgrade, not just compared to the previous generation vehicle, but the entire crossover SUV segment,” says Bill Bosley, VP and GM, Nissan Division.

“With its unique combination of modern design, dynamic performance, new ‘business class’ interior and overall refinement, Murano continues to stand out as the most distinctive and refined vehicle in class.” After seven days behind the wheel I can’t agree more with Mr. Bosley’s assessment, and here’s why I am fan of the Murano.

The original and unique body styling has been refined which gives it a more modern look yet keeps it truly unique and easily identified as a Nissan Murano.

Murano’s new front end features a more refined and distinctive grille treatment with wide front headlights-with available quad-cylinder style HID bi-functional projector headlights adding an even stronger and imposing view at night. Down below is a wide air-intake and integral skid plate. The new hood sweeps into the sculpted, dynamic bodylines, with pronounced wheel arches and 18in. standard and 20in. optional wheels providing a very aggressive stance and wider track. Integrated fog lamps are optional on SL and LE models.

The large chrome pull-out door handles, a lower chrome strip at the bottom of each door, and optional roof rails, with adjustable crossbars, add more functionality and visual accents. The redesigned rear end features a unique rear glass shape, a rear air deflector, and large, wrap-around horizontal LED taillights that accent the body side character line. Dual exhaust outlets with chrome finishers provide an appropriate visual cue as to the crossover’s potential power and performance.

New available exterior features include rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate, enhanced RearView Monitor and a large, dual panel power sliding glass sunroof and 2nd row skylight-a new feature that gives an open-air experience for backseat passengers with compromising headroom.

Inside, the new Murano lives up to its ‘mobile suite’ design theme with an interior exemplifying warmth and modern style. From the sweep of the instrument panel, to the new telescoping steering wheel design, to the wide console and ambient lighting, you will feel a sense of warmth and security from the first time you open the door. When you do open the door you’ll be greeted with stainless steel scuff plates, and a roomy, comfortable, ergonomic, high-tech and safe cabin.

The visibility is excellent all-around you for ease of operation and safety. Murano’s new front seats have been designed for enhanced comfort and support. The 60/40 fold-flat rear seat has a pull-down armrest with dual cupholders and now features a convenient power return feature-the seat returns to the upright position with the touch of a button. Standard grab handles above each door make entry and exit easy and safe.

Heated seats are optional in the front and rear. Also optional are new double-stitched leather appointed seating surfaces and stick shifter for an inviting, luxurious feeling, an 8-way power driver’s and 4-way power front passenger’s seats and a driver memory system. The leather-wrapped steering wheel feels great in your hand and features power tilt/telescope in the loaded LE model that I tested. The wheel also holds buttons for the audio, cruise-control, and hands free communication systems. Straight-ahead is the easy-to-see instrument cluster with three large, chrome-ringed ‘Fine Vision’ gauges and driver info screen for personalization and trip computer readouts. The new dashboard shelf can accommodate most items and the material and workmanship shows that Nissan really wanted the interior to be something special. All buttons, switches and dials are within easy reach and fully illuminated for safer nighttime driving. The center console is ringed with chrome as is the gate for shifting, and the dual cup holders and storage bin lie beneath easy opening spring loaded covers. The easy-to-use buttons and dial just below the 7in. screen are taken from the Infiniti models.

A variety of storage areas are provided throughout Murano’s interior, including standard dual-level center console, pockets for mobile phones, coins, maps, an extra large glove compartment and dual seatback pockets, as well as a large rear cargo area. Another new innovative Murano feature is an optional foldaway cargo organizer. When needed the organizer pops up with a push of a button from its hidden space below the floor and the top snaps into a vertical position, revealing a flat recessed space with removable, vertical partitions. The system helps stop cargo from rolling loose around the cargo area while driving. The storage is also ideal for wet or dirty items due to its easy-to-clean box floor. Other standard equipment inside my LE model all of the above options including a push-buttons ignition, auto door locks/power windows, dual climate control with air filtration, dual maps lamps, three 12-volt DC power outlets, HomeLink Universal Transceiver, sun visors with illuminated mirrors, overhead console with dual maps lamps and sunglass holder, interior wood trim, retractable cargo cover, 7in. QVGA color display, Bose audio/video system with 9-speakers and dual-speaker subwoofer, auxiliary audio/video inputs behind the center console, XM satellite radio, iPod connector and Bluetooth Hands Free Phone System with controls on the steering wheel. My loaded LE model also came with the following options-splash guards, dual panel sunroof, Nissan Navigation System with Hard Disk Drive Navigation plus the Bose Audio System is upgraded with 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive and Compact Flash Slot. This interior is as close as you can get to luxury territory. But what about power and performance, does it match up?

Yes indeed, as the new Murano features Nissan’s award-winning VQ Series engine-a revised 3.5 liter DOHC V6 making 265hp and 248lb.ft. of torque. The engine features a Twin Nissan Variable Induction Control System, microfinished camshaft and crankshaft surfaces, digital knock control system, high capacity mufflers and lightweight aluminum block and cylinder heads. This advanced V6 engine is mated to a new, advanced Xtronic CVT with Adaptive Shift Control that gives a sporty driving experience and the smoothness that only a CVT offers. Nissan’s CVT is one of the best I have ever tested.

There is never a ‘grinding or wining sound’, as you just push your foot on the throttle and away you go, rather quickly for a 4,400lb. crossover. On the open road you can cruise all-day at high speeds without a shutter or flutter from the engine or transmission.

All 2009 Muranos come standard with front-wheel-drive or with an optional advanced all-wheel-drive system that adjusts to road conditions in a tenth of a second. The intuitive AWD system connects the Murano Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system’s yaw sensors, wheel slip sensors and steering angle sensors with the AWD system. The system provides increased traction in all weather conditions by distributing engine torque depending on your intended direction and the actual direction of the vehicle. The VDC with a Traction Control System (TCS) for all-weather confidence comes standard on all models.

The new Murano features Nissan’s new, advanced ‘D’ platform that provides a solid foundation for crossover duties. This platform, which is similar to that used in the 2008 Altima, has been optimized for the Murano. The new platform gives the Murano one-of-a-half times more torsional rigidity than the first generation Murano, helping to improve noise, isolation and reduce vibration-benefiting the ride comfort of all passengers.

A smooth and controlled ride is enhanced with Murano’s standard four-wheel independent suspension with extensive use of lightweight aluminum that reduces unsprung weight. The new suspension design, with its cradle-type front subframe and multi-link rear design has improved geometry, large front and rear stabilizers bars, and increased stiffness. The suspension, in combination with high-performance dual flow path shocks helps provide sure footing in all surfaces and increased ride comfort on rough surfaces. Up front are struts, coil springs and a 25mm solid stabilizer bar while the multi-link rear setup features coil springs, shocks and a 20mm tubular stabilizer bar.

A new twin-orifice speed-sensitive power steering system, similar to the one used in the new Altima and 350Z, provides the proper level of assistance in around-town and high-speed driving. The system provides a direct steering feel, giving you more confidence when entering corners or driving at high speeds.

Slowing the Murano down is a snap thanks to large, vented, 4-wheel disc brakes. Up front are 12.6in. discs clamped with dual-piston calipers, and the rear features 12.1in. discs clamped with single-piston calipers. Braking control and force is enhanced with standard ABS, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist.

The all-new Murano rides on large, standard 18X7.5in. 6-spoke aluminum wheels wrapped with 235/65R18in. tires, or you can option for the 20X7.5in. titanium finished, aluminum wheels wrapped with 235/55R20in. tires.

Standard safety features include six airbags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact airbags, tire pressure monitor, 3-point safety belts with front pretensioners/load limiters, LATCH child seat anchors, front seats with active head restraints, and Zone Body Construction with front/rear crumple zones to help dissipate crash energy away from the passenger compartment.

The all-new 2009 Nissan Murano is defining what a proper crossover sport utility should come equipped with-a unique style, enough power and performance for a fun-to-drive ride, lots of passenger space, comfort, ergonomic, functional cargo storage, high-tech options and safety for you and your passengers. The Murano is at the top of the segment.

Nissan 370Z Roadster coming to New York in April

As the future of the Tokyo Motor Show remains questionable, Nissan has confirmed with InsideLine that it will unveil the Nissan 370Z Roadster at the 2009 New York Auto Show in April.

Don’t expect a hard-top convertible like the Infiniti G37 Convertible but you can definitely expect the same 3.7L VQ37VHR engine with VVEL that makes 332-hp with a maximum torque of 270 lb-ft.

The Nissan 370Z Roadster will arrive in showrooms just in time for the summer. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Nissan to close Michigan design studio and cut 110 white-color jobs

Nissan announced today that it will cut 110 white-color jobs and will also close its Detroit design studio in order to cut costs. It said it will also close four of its regional sales offices in the U.S. and will cut back its U.S. design operations at its existing studio in San Diego.

Nissan said that its research and development center adjacent to its design studio in Farmington Hills, Michigan, will remain open. According to Nissan spokeswoman Katherine Zachary, 10 design jobs will be cut as a result of the changes. The rest of the job cuts will come from Nissan’s marketing and sales operations.

Zachary said that Nissan is expected to offer buyouts for most of the workers whose positions are being eliminated.

Nissan and Infiniti sales dropped 11 percent in 2008.

Press Release:

NISSAN REALIGNS U.S. SALES & MARKETING, DESIGN OPERATIONS

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2009) – Nissan is realigning some of its North American operations to ensure long-term competitiveness in the U.S. market. The actions include a restructuring of the Nissan North America (NNA) sales and marketing operations and the integration of Nissan Design America (NDA).
NNA is restructuring its sales and marketing field operations to be better positioned to serve dealers and consumers. Specific actions include transitioning from a field structure based on 11 regional sales offices to a new structure with seven regional sales offices and 23 satellite offices in 18 locations across the United States. This shift involves the closure of four regional sales offices: Nissan Mid-Atlantic in Herndon, Va.; Nissan Northwest in Pleasanton, Calif.; Infiniti Central in Aurora, Ill.; and Infiniti South in Atlanta.
Additional enhancements to the sales and marketing organization include expanded personnel assigned to support each dealer and the creation of a dedicated electric vehicle project team.
NDA is integrating its operations into its San Diego studio beginning April 1. This action is being taken to strengthen NDA’s role in Nissan’s global design organization by increasing the level of participation in the exploratory and advanced phases of North American and global design projects. This integration will result in the redeployment of the design facility in Farmington Hills, Mich., for use by other functions of the company. This does not impact the research and development operations at Nissan Technical Center North America, which has facilities in Farmington Hills and in Stanfield, Ariz.
Taken together, these actions will eliminate approximately 110 positions. Nissan intends to achieve the majority of these reductions through a voluntary transition plan.

Nissan GT-R Launch Control Reprogram Clarification from Nissan

Recently InsideLine reported that Nissan begun implementing a software change on new GT-R’s awaiting delivery and delivering a message to current owners to bring their vehicles in for reprogramming. The new reprogram modification would have “acceleration similar to that with the current launch control,” and will do this without disabling the VDC – Vehicle Dynamic Control. It will have a “launch mode” that reduces the launch rev to around 3,000 to 3,500 rpm. This will supposedly reduce stress on the drivetrain where the new program mapping will engage the clutch in “softer” manor. Also stated by Nissan is that all GT-R’s sold from now and into the future will have this new programming.

The situation, “…had been blown way out of proportion” says Scott Vazin, Nissan North America’s chief of product public relations. That’s pretty obvious by the famous Hitler Broke His GT-R video that we posted a few weeks ago.

Nissan is committed to the warranty claim when VDC is disabled. Simply put, it will still void your warranty unless it is being used to free the vehicle from being stuck in mud or snow. Yea, I’m going to jump in my GT-R today and go mudding and while I am at it I’m going to watch Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift to learn how to drift and then… I will hit the snow fields with VDC off so I can show these clowns how you drift and hold a deep conversation at the same time.

[source: InsideLine]

Below is the dealer directive in regards to the new programming: What a Load!

Nissan has enhanced the Model Year (MY) 2009 GT-R by incorporating new MY 2010 programming that will optimize clutch engagement control for improved drivability. This upgrade also improves vehicle acceleration with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) ON/activated.

Nissan will provide this MY 2010 specification upgrade to MY 2009 GT-R owners at no additional cost. Nissan has already incorporated this programming into the GT-R vehicles in its U.S. inventory and will resume shipping of those vehicles to dealers. We will advise you soon on how to install this new program into all MY 2009 GT-Rs (see below).

The GT-R will continue to offer supercar characteristics of exceptional handling, maneuvering and overall driving experience. This upgrade provides the consumer improved drivability and enhanced acceleration performance with VDC ON (as required by the warranty). Standing acceleration capability with VDC ON (VDC-R mode) will improve compared to the original model year 2009 performance while such acceleration with VDC OFF will be moderated. Customers should be reminded to drive safely and obey all traffic laws. [Please note independent media reports of 0-60 drive times with VDC OFF (or what the media call "Launch Control") on closed courses with professional drivers will likely increase after this change.]

The GT-R Owner’s Manual expressly warns against driving with the VDC OFF (except to free the vehicle when stuck in mud or snow) to avoid damage. Repeated acceleration launches with VDC OFF have resulted in some reported instances of damage to the transaxle. Repairs for damage caused by driving with VDC OFF are expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan GT-R New Car Limited Warranty. Except when stuck, there is no reason to drive with VDC OFF.

This change was initially implemented with the start of MY 2010 GT-R production and has been completed for all 2009 GT-Rs still in NNA inventory… In a few weeks, you will receive the Technical Service Bulletin explaining how to implement this specification change for all remaining 2009 GT-Rs…

Attached is a REVISED Customer Disclosure Form With Modification Notice, which must be used with all customers who buy or take delivery of a MY 2009 GT-R.

Nissan 370Z - all you need to know about it

Nissan found a really nice way to say Happy New Year to those passionate about speed and style. Debuted in November at the LA Auto Show, their 2009 Nissan 370Z got more specs out including a price. The super coupe is replacing the older 350Z, and is now powered by a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 332 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque.

Also interesting is that the new Nissan 370Z is going to feature two new transmission options including a six-speed manual with an optional rev-matching feature (automatically blips the throttle on downshifts) and a seven-speed automatic.

On the inside it promotes luxurious materials that scream comfort and exquisiteness from every single part: amazing stereo, leather-trimmed sport seats, navigation with with iPod connectivity.

On the outside and spec-wise Nissan 370Z should include a double-wishbone front suspension, a wider body (1.1 inches), front and rear spoilers, Nissan Sport brakes (sport package), boomerang-style headlights and taillights, and a antilevered roofline.

Starting at $29,930 for the base version (6-speed transmission), the 370Z Coupe hops at $31,230 if you’d like the 7-speed automatic brings the total to $31,230. The other version the car will be offered in, the Touring model, starts at $34,460 with the 6-speed manual or $35,760 with the aforementioned automatic.

Oh and if you think that’s not enough, then there’s a stylish package that should tune it up really nice. We’re sold. How about you?

2011 Nissan GT-R Spec V - Official Photos and Info

As the hype surrounding Nissan’s GT-R sports car has tapered off somewhat, the company plans to keep the buzz fresh by unleashing a higher-performance Spec V model on the Japanese market early next month. Based on the standard 480-hp car, which is no slouch for a vehicle topping 3900 pounds, the Spec V is lighter and more track-focused, yet does without much additional gusto under the hood.

Available only in black and with two seats (lighter carbon-fiber Recaros), the GT-R Spec V gets down to fighting weight through the use of carbon fiber for the grille, brake ducts, and rear spoiler, as well as on the center console, instrument panel, and other interior areas. Also featured are standard carbon-ceramic brakes and lightweight forged aluminum wheels (offered through NISMO since last fall), both of which should improve responsiveness by reducing unsprung mass at each corner. Overall, we expect the reduction in flab to total at least 200 pounds.

Zele International Limited will start taking order for ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition globally from 30th March 2009.
These specially built eight ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Editions will be covered by Zele Performance World Warranty.

1. Key Factors
Performance
Following the launch of the new generation supercar, the Nissan GT-R, at Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007, Zele International Limited has used its experience and knowledge from research and development on the road and track, to create the ultimate production car. To optimize the power-to-weight ratio, power delivery and handling, Zele International modified the GT-R’s engine, engine management system, suspension and aerodynamics.
ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition’s brain, the “FZ-ROM Type 3 ECU” increases engine power output to 550ps.
Titanium is used extensively in the exhaust system, and offers the benefits of weight saving, heat proofing and an exciting exhaust note.
Oil temperature management is also important to optimize the performance and as such, a rear differential oil cooler is fitted.
All of these modifications have improved the standard GT-R’s weak points and thus enhance the overall performance.

Aerodynamics
In order to optimize the GT-R’s power-to-weight ratio, Zele International Limited makes extensive use of carbon fiber. Dry carbon fiber is used for the roof, the front bumper, the rear spoiler and the side rear view mirrors. Further to this carbon fiber is used for front lip spoiler, side skirts, NACA hood air ducts, rear under spoiler and so on.

Handling
To optimize the handling for the ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition, Zele International Limited developed a height adjustable (HA) Conversion Kit that gives added features to the GT-R’s standard Bilstein shock absorbers. Using the Zele HA Conversion Kit, it’s possible to adjust the vehicle ride height as desired while retaining the standard Bilstein Damptronic System electronically adjustable damper functionality.
To enhance the GT-R’s considerable stopping power, Zele Sports Brake Pads are fitted to the standard Brembo aluminum brake calipers.
The wheels on ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition are Zele original RAYS 20 inch forged alloy wheels. Customers are given the choice of either GramLights R57GT or the new Volk Racing TE37 G2.

Interior
Holding you in place during high “G” cornering are a pair of Alcantara trimmed RECARO full bucket seats.

Design
ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition offers an outstanding look with ZELE’s award-winning premium bodykit and Customized Paint Program which can be ordered in any color you choose.
At the SEMA Show 2008 in Las Vegas, U.S.A., ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition Proto was ranked as one of the top 13 cars by Mothers taking away the Mothers Choice trophy for design excellence.

FZ-ROM ECU Type3
The brain for the ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition manages a significant maximum output increase to 550ps.

ZELE Dry Carbon Fiber Roof
The dry carbon fiber roof is as strong as a steel roof, yet weighs far less. It reduces weight from the highest point of the vehicle, lowering the center of gravity and reducing yaw during cornering.
The original steel roof is replaced with the dry carbon fiber one using the same adhesive used for SUPER GT race cars.

ZELE Dry Carbon Fiber Rear Spoiler
Using dry carbon fiber reduces the weight above the trunk lid significantly. The shape is optimized to produce more downforce with the Zele full bodykit. It allows ideal power delivery with less drag.

ZELE Dry Carbon Fiber Front Bumper
Using dry carbon fiber as the material, it reduces the overhang weight significantly. Weight reduction in this area provides better cornering. The design is the same as the standard award-winning Zele Front Aero Bumper.

ZELE Customized Paint Program
In ZELE R35 GT-R Complete Edition, there are no compromises. Customers with a particular color in mind will find Zele International Limited can mix the exact water-based metallic or pearl-effect shade desired.

Zele Nissan GT-R "Complete Edition" Obliterates Price Tag At $205,000

The tuner world's quest to modify every Nissan GT-R ever built continues as Zele International announces the introduction of their R35 GT-R ‘Complete Edition,' which comes in at an eye-watering, SpecV-crushing $205,000.

So what do you get for the cost of a Nissan GT-R SpecV and a base model Corvette? Well, first off, you get exclusivity; Only eight of these cars will actually be delivered complete, though customers will be able to build their own by purchasing the components separately. Those upgrades include a custom paintjob, Recaro seats, complete carbon fiber body kit, a carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber intake cover, and carbon fiber radiator shroud. As to anything that actually makes it a faster car, it gets a titanium exhaust, rear differential cooler, a height adjustable suspension, upgraded brakes and an ECU reflash good for a bump up to 550 HP.

So is that good enough to command that kind of price? One word: Crackpipe.

2010 Nissan GT-R Spec V Revealed by Nissan

Nissan has revealed its new limited production Spec V model of the Nissan GT-R. A lot of people speculated this newer version of the GT-R to take the already great performance to an even higher level. Although the specifics on power output and the weight savings have yet to be determined it would be safe to say that the Spec V GT-R will be more powerful and lighter than the normal GT-R which is clearly obvious by the multiple images below.

The Black Opal paint job is truly stunning and I am sure in person it is even better. Complete with Recaro seats, carbon ceramic brakes, lighter weight 20 inch wheels and new reworked suspension, the GT-R Spec V WILL have a leading edge over the current GT-R.

The GT-R Spec V is expected to be sold in Japan first at 7 pre-selected dealerships. Word on whether the Spec V will make it to the U.S. is still unclear but we will keep our hopes up and let you know as soon as we find out for sure.
